CONTINUATION ON LIVELIHOODS AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Implemented activities:
o Supported establishment of a spare parts shop for hand pump in Orom Sub County being managed by a local Catholic Parish, where the community members are accessing spare parts for the hand pumps .
o Upgraded of 5 high yield boreholes by replacing hand pumps with solar power pumping system complete with storage tanks is nearing completion in the villages of Labworomor, Isreal, Juba, Lapeitak and Luperu.
o Drilled 3 boreholes and installed hand pumps in the villages of Agoromin, Lapene and Narungatuny of Lolwa, Lolia and Akurumo parishes, Orom Sub County respectively.
o Trained 8 water user committees for the 5 boreholes being motorised in Orom Sub County. In total 80 (M-35, F-45) members we trained .
o Supported sub county official to roll out bylaws on hygiene and sanitation in all the 39 villages and this has prompted some of the community members to adopt sanitation facilities .
o Conducted CLTS triggering in 5 villages. CLTS monitoring was done and one village was declared ODF (Open Defecation Free) declaration. The village is Ojorongole in Lolia parish-Orom Sub County.
o Facilitated formation and training of sanitation clubs in 3 primary schools (Locom, Camgweng and Agoromin) have been done. In total 96 (M-46, F-50) participants were trained.
o 3 Rubbish pits have been dug in the above mentioned primary schools. Have started a process of putting in place hand washing facilities in the 3 primary schools.
o Supported the district water office to carry out water quality test in 5 boreholes of Lakongera, Wangkenya, Camgweng, Lagwelima and Cyclon. The recommendation made by the district water office was shared with the community members in the 5 villages.
Information on good sanitation and hygiene practices
o Conducted community awareness on Hygiene and Sanitation
o Facilitated community awareness on operation and maintenance of the boreholes in the three parishes of Lolwa, Lolia and Akuromo.
o Facilitated 39 VHT’s to enable them support in the promotion of Hygiene, Sanitation and Data Collection.
o Held two consultative meetings with kitgum District. This was done both at the Sub County and District levels. At the sub county level, it was attended by 22 (M-15, F-7) participants and at district level it was attended by 21 (M-13, F-8) participants.
o Produced and distributed 2000 IEC materials and 120 T-shirts with hygiene and sanitation messages to promote hygiene and sanitation in the community.
knowledge, skills relationships of WASH services
o One community delegation to local government to raise WASH issues was organized and 43 (M-26, F-17) people attended the meeting The leaders invited includes, District Health Officer, District Water Officer, District Community Development Officer, sub county CDO, sub county chief, LC3, community representatives among others. They had discussion on hygiene and sanitation.
o Supported celebration of world water day held on Wednesday 22nd March 2017 at Amida Sub County. Kitgum District Local Government took lead in organizing. This event was a conclusion of a sanitation week. The project contributed support to this the theme, “good sanitation, how is your leader” for sanitation and World Water Day was “Water and Waste Water.” Over 1,200(M-700, F-500) were in attendance.
o Wrote two analytical articles to UWASNET newsletter to disseminate evidence and experience from program.
o Participated in one National UWASNET (Uganda Water and Sanitation Network) programs to share experiences and challenges and raise awareness on need for increased budgets and prioritization of WASH sector.
o Participated in Northern Uganda regional WASH learning forum where various stakeholders in WASH sector sharing good practices and experiences.
o Trained 19 (M-16, F-3) religious leaders to build their capacity to sensitizes their congregation and link the issue of hygiene and sanitation to the notion of purity and a calling of the faith as well as lead by example.
o Follow up on the community leaders, religious leaders and many others but to mention a few who were trained on Advocacy to check if the action plan they had agreed on during their training were accomplished and draws new plan.
o Facilitated VHT’s, Advocacy group members, sub county officials, local leaders in promotion of hygiene and sanitation and sensitization on the hygiene and sanitation by-law.
